Saddle Club

Term 3 2026 - Sat 25th July to Sat 26th September

Saddle Club is one of Hobart Horseplay’s most popular programs. It is a weekly horsemanship/riding lesson for children of ages 5 and up.

Children will learn many skills including: catching, handling and grooming a horse, tacking up, basic hoof care, basic equine nutrition, tack care, basic horse care (such as how to clean a water trough, how to muck out a stable, and what to look for when a horse may be unwell), as well as riding skills in a fun and supportive environment. Children will also improve their work ethic and social skills with every session they attend.

Saddle Club (Saturdays)

Saddle club runs for 10 weeks each term. Students are split into groups by a combination of their age (this is approximate) and ability levels. Older and more experienced children are required to help their younger and less experienced peers after their lesson - gaining even more experience with horsemanship and instructing.

Groups range from Green (beginners) through to Silver (experienced) and are staggered throughout the day. If your child has riding experience and you are unsure which group they might be in, skills lists are available by clicking the colours below.

An enrolment fee of $500 per term must be paid before you are able to book lessons. This is considered a partial deposit of $50 for each weekly lesson and is used as the non-refundable cancellation fee if needed. Costs below show the TOTAL lesson cost; so the actual amount payable each week is $50 LESS than shown.

GROUP TIMES and COST TERM 2 (EXCLUDING initial deposit):

Green: 11am-1pm $120 per lesson

Yellow: 12:30-2:30pm $120 per lesson

Red: 11am-2:30pm, $120 per lesson

Blue: 9:00am-1pm $120 per lesson

Purple : 12pm-4pm (from 11am*), $120 per lesson

Bronze: 9:00am-1pm (4pm*), $120 per lesson

Silver: 12pm-4pm (from 9am*), $120 per lesson

*these are optional start/finish times for the purple, bronze and silver groups (i.e. purple optional time 11am-4pm, bronze optional time of 9:30am-4pm, silver optional time of 9am-4pm). They are not EXPECTED to give up their entire day every week, but are welcome to do so :)

TERM 3 2026 Dates: Saturday 25th July to Saturday 26th September inclusive

NB: Missed lessons will incur a $50 cancellation fee (covered in the initial $500 deposit). Saddle club operates in most weather.

Fortnightly lessons are an option. These will run from 2pm-4pm and cost $120 per lesson. The enrolment fee for fortnightly lessons is $250 (five weeks).

SADDLE CLUB HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

Dearest Saddle Club members (or those looking to join!) -

Holidays are fast approaching and we have been busy planning fun activities for everyone. In addition to the general public sessions, Saddle Club kids have their own activities to enjoy. Read on, dear reader!

Saddle Club will continue to run on Saturday the 11th and 18th July, albeit it slightly differently.
Overnight camp will be on offer on the weekend of the 18th. You can book 2 nights or 1.
An information session/community activity/bonfire will be run on the 18th July from 2pm. PLEASE try and attend, either in person or via zoom.
