Saddle Club

Term 4 2026 - Sat October 17th to Sat 19th December

Saddle Club is one of Hobart Horseplay’s most popular programs. It is a weekly horsemanship/riding lesson for children of ages 5 and up.

Children will learn many skills including: catching, handling and grooming a horse, tacking up, basic hoof care, basic equine nutrition, tack care, basic horse care (such as how to clean a water trough, how to muck out a stable, and what to look for when a horse may be unwell), as well as riding skills in a fun and supportive environment. Children will also improve their work ethic and social skills with every session they attend.

Saddle Club (Saturdays)

Saddle club runs for 10 weeks each term. Students are split into groups by a combination of their age (this is approximate) and ability levels. Older and more experienced children are required to help their younger and less experienced peers after their lesson - gaining even more experience with horsemanship and instructing.

Groups range from Green (beginners) through to Silver (experienced) and are staggered throughout the day. If your child has riding experience and you are unsure which group they might be in, skills lists are available by clicking the colours below.

An enrolment fee of $500 per term must be paid before you are able to book lessons. This is considered a partial deposit of $50 for each weekly lesson and is used as the non-refundable cancellation fee if needed. Costs below show the TOTAL lesson cost; so the actual amount payable each week is $50 LESS than shown.

GROUP TIMES and COST TERM 4(EXCLUDING initial deposit):

Green: 10:30am-12:30pm $130 per lesson

Yellow A: 1:30pm-3:30pm $130 per lesson

Yellow B: 2:30pm-4:20pm $130 per lesson

Red A: 11:30am-1:30pm, $130 per lesson

Red B: 2:30pm-4:30pm, $130 per lesson

Blue: 11:30am-4:30pm, $130 per lesson

Purple : 9am-4:30pm, $130 per lesson

Bronze: 9am-4:30pm, $130 per lesson

Silver: 9:30am-4pm, $120 per lesson

TERM 4 2026 Dates: Saturday 17th October to Saturday 19th December inclusive

NB: Missed lessons will incur a $50 cancellation fee (covered in the initial $500 deposit). Saddle club operates in most weather.

The enrolment fee for fortnightly lessons is $250 (five weeks).

Fortnightly Attendance

Fortnightly attendance is welcome at Saddle Club. This term, fortnightly students will be split into the following groups:

On lead students or those under the age of 10 are welcome to join the green group on their chosen fortnight.

Off lead at the walk/trot or those who are ages 10 and up are welcome to join the yellow A group on their chosen fortnight.

Long term students or those who are considered red group and up, please enrol in your normal colour groups.

There is an enrolment fee of $250 for fortnightly students.

After School Saddle Club

We are back to offering Saddle Club after school for independent riders who can’t attend Saturday lessons. This is also a great option for those kids who struggle in larger groups.

When: Thursdays, 4-5:30pm.

Cost: $130pp.

NB: This class is only open to riders who are able to groom/tack up and ride with minimal assistance - think Red Group and above. Please note - a $50 non refundable deposit is required to secure each lesson.

SADDLE CLUB HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

Dearest Saddle Club members (or those looking to join!) -

Holidays are fast approaching and we have been busy planning fun activities for everyone. In addition to the general public sessions, Saddle Club kids have their own activities to enjoy. Read on, dear reader!

Saddle Club will continue to run on Saturday the 3rd and 10th of October. These sessions are optional.
ALL STUDENTS will be offered attendance from 9:30am-1pm on both weeks. You can book online as per normal.

Saddle Club overnight camp will be on offer from Friday 2nd October until Sunday 4th October and you can stay for one night or two. For those still at school on the Friday, you can come after school. For those lucky kids who have the day off, you can come at 10am on Friday.

Pricing

Friday 4pm until Saturday 1pm (one night): $250pp
Friday 4pm until Sunday 4pm (two nights): $420pp

10am drop off on Friday is available as an ‘add on’ when booking for an extra $80pp.

The above pricing INCLUDES the Saddle Club lesson on Saturday.

General Public overnight camp is open to saddle club students for a discounted rate of $330pp. You can book this via the booking system as normal, but use the code SC2026 for the discounted rate.
